Chimpanzee Artwork to go on Sale

WASHINGTON (IWR News Parody) – Scott McClellan announced this afternoon that President Bush Plans to auction off his world renowned chimpanzee paintings for charity.

The collection of three hundred tempera on paper paintings — described as resembling cheesy abstract artworks — are expected to fetch between $130 and $150 next month at Sotheby’s.

Bongo (Mr. Bush’s artist nom de plume) produced some 400 drawings and paintings between the ages of 53 and 58.

It took Bongo over 50 years to learn how to handle a brush and pencils, instead of knocking them over or trying to eat them.

He painted within the boundaries of the sheet of paper, never allowing the paint to spill over the edge, and appeared to know when he had finished a painting — by refusing to pick up his brush or pencil over the work and then demanding a banana.

Sotheby’s said Wednesday it believed the auction would break new ground in guerrilla art.

"I would sincerely doubt that chimpanzee art by a sitting president has ever been auctioned before," said Sotheby’s’ director of modern and contemporary art, Howard Shempy. "I don’t think anybody else has been silly enough to do this."
