By the time we got to the Civic Center, it was close to 2:00 PM, and we were all starved so we had lunch at this local bistro. On the way to lunch, I saw these people dancing in the street and "Tango Protest" (below) was the sign for their dance space.
After lunch, we all felt reinvigorated and returned to the Civic Center. The first protest sign to catch my eye was this on of Bart Simpson.
When we walked around the front of Civic Center and turned back towards the crowd, we saw this vendor selling George Bush Voodoo dolls for $5 a pop. I can't imagine these entrepreneurs made any real money.
Just up the street was this young woman selling Origami Peace Cranes (See the Sadako Story). Also, I didn't notice before the guy in the yellow sweatshirt with the duct tape on his mouth!
When we made it back to the Civic Center plaza, we were confronted by this by this "Inspect Me" paper Mache sculpture. I also like the picture of the father and son looking with awe most likely at the dancers or the peace dove.

The "Inspect Me" sculpture seemed to be a meeting place for artists and dancers. There was also a giant peace dove (not shown) to the right of the dancers (below).
There were also a lot of people on stilts. It was a lot like a giant Halloween party in some ways.
We started to walk up towards the front stage where Joan Baez and Bonnie Raitt were performing when this alignment of images caught my eye and seemed to be a great summary picture of this event. I had seen the "Dumb Ass" poster before, but it just appeared as I snapped the picture.
On the way back to Bart, I took this picture of these three dudes sitting on this monument with a red, white and blue peace sign.
The Bart Station in Oakland was packed with people returning from the protests. When I finally got home around 7:00 PM, I crashed out almost immediate on the couch with all the images of the protest still dancing in my mind. I'm glad I went. Power to the People!
