Lee (who played with Art Blakey) was one of the great trumpet players of all times.

Bo Diddley - Bo Diddley (ES - Live 11/20/1955)
This is a great of the master in his prime.

Bo Diddley

Buddy Holly - Not Fade Away (1957)
The Rolling Stones of course covered this song, but you can also hear the influence of Bo Diddley on this song.

Buddy Holly

Muddy Waters - Rollin' Stone (1962?)
Another remarkable cut by Muddy Waters.

Muddy Waters

Tito Puente - Oye Como Va (1963)
Most folks remember Santana's 1970 cover of this song by the legendary Latin musician Tito Puete.

Tito Puente

Perez Prado - Guaglione
Great music, but the video cracks me up.  The video says it was made in 1995, but the original film looks a lot older.

Perez Prado

The Doors

Steely Dan - Rikki don't Lose That Number (1974)

I read about this Stephen Sondheim song in a NY Times book review by Paul Simon.

 Stephen Sondheim

Captain Beefheart Click Clack & Grow Fins
These are two of the best songs from The Spotlight Kid. I love Captain Beefheart. He was kind of like a psychedelic version of Howlin' Wolf. He was an innovator of the blues much like the John Coltrane was for jazz . Unlike most bands of the period who mostly copied (stole) Muddy Waters et al, Don Van Vliet really understood the blues and added another dimension to the genre. BTW, Grow Fins is one of my all time favorites - http://www.beefheart.com/walker/lyrics/sk/growfins.htm.

Captain Beefheart

They Might Be Giants - The Mesopotamians

They Might Be Giants

Elvis Hitler - Green Haze
This song cracks me up.
