I had blogged an art link about the French Symbolist painter Edmond Aman-Jean

UCB Music Library - Digital Sheet Music Collection
This is a great collection sheet music scans from 1890 to 1920. In
addition to the huge ragtime section, there are Western, Colorado and
collections. My only wish is that this site included links so
that you could hear recorded versions of these songs and music where
possible. The ones I found on YouTube, I blogged below in the video
item. Here are some of my favorite images from the collection.
Just in case you are interested in who

I found a boatload of ragtime sheet music at the University of Colorado,

recording by Chet Atkins is wonderful.

Life: The Mask of Lincoln
Lincoln's 200th birthday in 2009, there is
a Lincoln photographic exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery
in Washington D.C. I've always been a big fan of A. Lincoln, and
it's no surprise that
elect Barack Obama is too. Like a lot of people, I became very
interested in the Civil and especially Lincoln after I saw Ken Burns'
marvelous PBS series. I've read
Donald's Lincoln biography and also bought
David Grubin's PBS special on Lincoln. In my opinion, Lincoln
was the greatest president, a great orator and perhaps the greatest
political leader of all time. The University of Michigan also
has the searchable
Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln online.
Mathew Brady - Albumen silver print (1864)
Here's one of my favorite quotes by Lincoln from
his first inaugural speech in 1861:
I am loth to close. We are not enemies, but friends.
We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not
break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, streching
from every battle-field, and patriot grave, to every living heart and
hearthstone, all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of
the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better
angels of our nature.

This is pretty ridiculous and cheesy parody, but very funny nonetheless.
This clip was a video response to the hilarious
