My Woodblock Prints
I've recently picked a couple of woodblock prints on eBay from the
Robert Mueller collection. I only wish I could afford to be the
originals, but these 70 year old prints are the next best thing.

Les Maîtres de l'Affiche
Masters of the poster was a monthly publication containing the reproduction
of the "most beautiful illustrated posters of the major artists of the
period that was published by Chaix Printing Works from 1896 to 1900. I
know I've posted turn of the century posters before from the NYPL, but this
is a special published set. Here are a couple of posters that I
thought were outstanding.

William Merritt Chase [Bio
1849-1916]
Wikimedia
The America impressionist painter William Merritt Chase was also a mentor of
my favorite American artist
Edward
Hooper. Chase was very prolific and like Van Gogh was also
influenced by Japanese artwork. Here are two images that I caught my
eye today. What's your favorite Chase painting?

Ichiyusai Hiroshige - Wikimedia,

and
Visipix [Bio
1797-1858]
The more I look at Hiroshige's woodblock prints the more enchanted I
become. Today while browsing through images on Wikimedia, I noticed
the wonderful print below, which I had not seen or noticed before.
The beauty of this artwork has totally captivated me for moment at least.
I can see how an artist like Van Gogh was impressed by Hiroshige's colors
and designs in the 19th century, because Hiroshige's images are still
just as powerful today as they were 150 years ago if not even more so!

Lo and Behold: Amy Crehore's "Literartistry" Paintings
It's good to see that Amy is keeping busy creating great artwork.
This work is for: "The 'Literartistry' show opens at
Corey Helford
Gallery in Culver City, CA on August 11, 2007 from 7-10 pm and
continues for 3 weeks. About 50 artists will participate, each
interpreting his/her favorite book, and the books themselves will be
available for check-out in an upstairs library."

I enjoyed the painting below in particular, but I am concerned a bit that
the breasts of these young beauties seem to defy gravity. ;-)
Update: according to a reader, that is the artist's daughter in the
painting below, and her breasts are rendered accurately. Also, when
I was looking at his artwork again, I found
Belle De Fleurs to be quite beautiful.
