Internet Weekly Report - Art And Culture

Marianne Stokes

Marianne Stokes [Bio] is considered part of the Pre-Raphaelite Sisterhood.  Although her artwork is somewhat scarce on the Internet, I find the humanity depicted in her paintings as being very engaging.  I usually shy away from religious inspired art, but Marianne Stokes' Pre-Raphaelite style is so superb that it transcends the religious themes of her paintings.  There are also more images at Art Magic and at Pitt State.

Madonna and Child (1907-08)

Mélisande (1895-98)

On the Way to the Fields (1883-87)

St Elizabeth of Hungary Spinning for the Poor (1895)
